An abacus is a hands-on calculating tool with movable beads. Learners use it to understand quantity, place value, and arithmetic before gradually visualizing the bead movements mentally.

Alongside arithmetic fluency, regular practice can support concentration, visual memory, patience, self-esteem, and disciplined learning habits.

Many children begin in kindergarten, once they can recognize and write numbers. Readiness matters more than a precise birthday, so we are happy to help parents assess the right starting point.

Students move from 10 Kyu down to 1 Kyu. After 1 Kyu, the advanced Dan sequence begins at 1 Dan and progresses upward to 10 Dan.
